J. Harry Haslam, Jr., a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the Saint Benedict Education Foundation, Inc., has been named Board Chairman. The foundation, based in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, helps raise funds for scholarships for students attending the international Benedictine university in Rome, Sant’ Anselmo.

Haslam and his wife Kimi live on Tybee Island, Georgia, and enjoy traveling and conservation of wildlife habitats. They have five children and six grandchildren. Harry is a member of Saint Michael’s Catholic Church and a Benedictine Oblate. Four generations of his family have attended Benedictine Military School, Savannah, Georgia, which is operated by Benedictine monks of Saint Vincent Archabbey.

Harry received his bachelor of business administration degree in accounting from the University of Georgia in 1973 and joined the firm of Hancock Askew upon honorable discharge as a second lieutenant from the United States Army, Finance Corp. He was admitted as a partner in 1981. Harry is a certified public accountant licensed in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Nevada. He is a Certified Bank Auditor and also holds an insurance license in Georgia.

Haslam has 38 years experience advising individuals and businesses. He has extensive experience with restructuring, mergers, and acquisitions. Throughout his career he has served clients by providing financial, income and estate tax and consulting services on issues for a wide range of industries, including insurance agents and brokers, construction, banking, agricultural and healthcare.

He is a member of the executive committee and past managing partner (1986-2011) of Hancock Askew & Co., LLP, a regional accounting firm with offices in Savannah and Atlanta.

His current professional memberships include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, South Carolina Society of Certified Public Accountants, Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants, Florida Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the North Carolina Society of Certified Public Accountants.

His current civic activities include: Memorial Hospital Board Member and Finance Chair; Georgia Conservancy Board Member and Audit Chair; The Hibernian Society of Savannah, Past President; 200 Club of the Coastal Empire, Founder, Board Member; Friends of Jack Kingston, Treasurer; 13th Colony Political Action Committee, Trustee; and Clan na Erin, Past President, Founder.
